Ross learns of Duncan's murder in 2.4 and discusses it with an Old Man in light of unnatural events that seemed to predict it. Then he observes Macbeth at the banquet though he does not see Banquo's ghost. Later, he tries to calm Lady Macduff's fears, but he is afraid to stay too long. It is Ross who delivers the news to Macduff of the murder of his wife and children in 4.3. He delivers the news of Young Siward's death in 5.8.
