Desdemona is the daughter of Brabantio, a powerful nobleman and senator
in Venice. She falls in love with and marries Othello, choosing him over
her father in 1.3. In Cyprus, her generous and innocent plea to have Cassio reinstated
as Othello's lieutenant and her loss of the handkerchief Othello gave her are turned against her by Iago's plot to make Othello suspicious of Cassio.
She dies protesting her innocence and, reviving momentarily, says that nobody
killed her.
