Taming of the Shrew: Lecture One Form

Shakespeare Study Guide copyright 1998 Helen J. Schwartz

To respond to Lecture One for Taming of the Shrew, copy the question you have chosen into a word processor, write your answer, and then submit it as indicated by your instructor.

Give a substantial answer (at least 150 words) to ONE of the following questions:

1. Kate's behavior changes from the beginning to the end of the play.  Discuss whether you think that her thinking has changed with her behavior and what this change (or lack of change) means to you (approve or disapprove). To support your answer, look carefully at a minimum of three scenes (beginning, middle and end).  What is the cause and effect of the change (or lack of change)?

2.  Petruchio starts out with a strategy to tame Kate.  Discuss how he applies his strategy in at least three scenes (beginning, middle and end) to show whether he needs to change his strategy, whether he succeeds and why you approve or disapprove.
