Shakespeare Study Guide copyright 1998 Helen J. Schwartz

To respond to Part Two of the Lecture for Taming of the Shrew, copy the question you have chosen into a word processor, write your answer, and then submit it as indicated by your instructor.

Give a substantial answer (at least 150 words) to ONE of the following questions:

1.  What do you think of Bianca? For example, has Bianca been awakened to full personhood in the course of Lucentio's wooing of her and her decision to elope with him? Or has she been secretly bitchy all along and now she has no reason to hide it? Explain the scenes, actions and lines that support your view.

2.  After Sly sits down to watch the play about the taming of a shrew, the Lord comes out in the audience and sits down next to you.  For one of the following scenes, compare and contrast what the character Sly thinks as he watches, what the character Lord thinks as he watches and what you think as you watch:  a) Petruchio woos Kate in 2.1  b)  Vincentio meets Kate and Petruchio on the road in 4.5,  or c) Vincentio is greeted at his son's house in Padua in 5.1
