Lucentio comes from Florence, to Padua to attend the university, but upon seeing Bianca he falls in love with her and decides, given her father's ban on wooers, to disguise himself as a Latin tutor (named Cambio) to gain access to her. Meanwhile, his servant Tranio, disguised as Lucentio, makes the financial bids to win her father's consent and gets a substitute father to endorse it. The real Lucentio elopes with Bianca in 4.4. Suddenly confronted by his angry father Vincentio in 5.1, Lucentio offers love and obedience to free his father and gain his approval for the marriage to Bianca.  In 5.2, Lucentio loses to Petruchio in a wager about whose wife is most obedient.
